Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.

“I guess Surrealism has a draw for me because it’s an unknown world. It’s a world of subconscious. Some things you can’t really get your hands on very easily. Things that are kind of nebulous and they feel like they’re not completely formed. You have to feel your way through that.” Gotye

What is space? What is time? Do they exist independently of the things and processes in them? Or is their existence parasitic on these things and processes? Are they like a canvas onto which an artist paints; they exist whether or not the artist paints on them? Or are they akin to parenthood; there is no parenthood until there are parents and children? That is, is there no space and time until there are things with spatial properties and processes with temporal durations?

tumblrbot asked: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INANIMATE OBJECT?

you tumblrbot… you!

It’s quite humorous…

that people spend 3 years and over £20,000 on a University Degree, then have no idea where to go, or what to do with it, don’t you think?

Not that I’m one to talk (for very different reasons) - many doors take my fancy yet I can only walk through one of them. Do I teach and feel the joy I once had as a teenager when a tutor truly inspired me? Do I become a Dramatherapist, and use my skills and the area I’m passionate about to help those in need, or do I use my skills for entertainment, and try to become an actor?

Time is running out, and I don’t like that!

Losing yet more faith in the Tory government

This whole abolishment of the British Film Council has totally added fuel to my hatred for the current government. Direct figures from the UK Film Council are as follows:

Turnover of £6.8 billion.

Contributes a total of over £4.5 billion a year to UK GDP

Returns more than £1.2 billion to the Exchequer and supports a total of 100,000 direct and indirect jobs.

62% box office growth since the UK Film Council was created (in 2009 it reached record levels of £944 million), with British films accounting for 23% of all UK cinema takings over the ten years to 2009.

THIS, one of the countries most rapidly growing sources of income and a valuable asset for the people of this country, by providing a growing and progressive service in a recession, is scrapped and the Tories don’t have a plan to replace it!?

On BBC’s “Question Time” it was announced that yesterday, on the 15th September 2010, a meeting was held to discuss who can carry on supporting British films, and nobody seems to want the role… the British film industry will no longer have funding to continue to flourish (£1.2b annual profit into the economy, for a Council only set up 10 years ago, is a great result!). Its 100,000 workers will struggle to maintain their careers, the huge profit margins pumping money directly into the economy will no longer be available, and the British working public who rely on entertainment to help them escape from the harsh reality of the recession will lose one of our best sources… nice one….

Leonardo Da Wookie’s “Wookian Man” - If only my child like imagination could be real… just this once! (It tickles me also that the description for the real Vitruvian Man is “Pen and ink with a wash over metalpoint on paper”, or, in simpler terms, “a drawing”)

Justice system gone mad…

To be honest with you, I was frankly alarmed, dismayed and somewhat sickened to read a recent BBC News article on a man in Scotland arrested and convicted of sending various death threats to celebrities and civilians.

Alan Linton, 32, pleaded guilty to the following:

- Threatening to shoot Britain’s most loved celebrity Cheryl Cole

- Threatening to shoot in the head former Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc

- Sending threatening letters to blow up Glasgow Airport

- Sending threatening letters to blow up Celtic Park Stadium

- Sending threatening letters to kill a number of young school girls at Primary School

Now, I can understand how a 33 month sentence was just as no physical actions were ever carried out, however the fact that he pleaded guilty to this for whatever reason means he is allowed to walk free after serving just 6 months, cutting a whole 28 months off his sentence. After admitting that the letters involved threats to “splatter the blood of young girls all over the playground” and an attempt to make “flesh rise up”, I believe this would further assert the fact he has been given and should therefore serve a 33 month sentence, not have 28 months slashed off it. Does admitting a crime really mean you wouldn’t ever do it or do it again? Of course not. Furthermore, he admitted to being a Satanist as all the letter were signed “DOS” (Disciple of Satan) and was doing such things because of the would be victims religious beliefs. He further admitted such threats would probably be made again in the future. There was severe intent, a mass of evidence, a whole court room full of victims, and a justice system gone mad.

Why on earth does our nation treat criminals and severely disturbed people like they are small children and think a little slap on the wrists and 6 months in prison will teach them a lesson?

Re-Blog

I feel the need to re-blog this, considering the sadistic way in which the media in England has jumped from one extreme to another with England in the World Cup. Last week, they were all knocked out, this week they are saying we can win it again…

I came across this wonderfully scripted criticism reading Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Ernest.

Algernon. The truth is rarely pure and never simple. Modern life would be very tedious if it were either, and modern literature a complete impossibility!

Jack. That wouldn’t be at all a bad thing.

Algernon. Criticism is not your forte, my dear fellow. Don’t try it. You should leave that to people who haven’t been at a University. They do it so well in the daily papers.

Oscar Wilde

Wilde raises a good point…

What Dreams May (yet) Come

A lot of dreams are (slowly but surely) coming true for most young people with England progressing in the World Cup, and the great rivals Germany coming up in just 2 days now… but the elation of world cup fever could well be dampened a little in the first week of July, and to be honest, I find it difficult to take my mind off it. The dreaded 2nd year results day beckons, albeit somewhat glossed over by the euphoria of the greatest sporting event known to man still under way.

Now, I understand most people will tell me not to worry about 2nd year results but lets be honest… does anyone actually know how to the degree grading is actually worked out? The tutors and past students give mixed responses and getting a reply off a higher authority at Lincoln is a near impossibility… although I do understand 2nd year marks CAN be of benefit… so purely for back up reasons… I’m shitting it in the hope I’ve done enough to give me a decent back up just in case 3rd year doesn’t go to plan…

This brings me nicely on to my future… I expect to find myself writing again this time year near saying something totally different, but… therapy or teaching… or maybe a bit of both? (Is that even possible? Answers welcome) Therapy will require a First… and another year at Central in London… and yes the money of going into teaching immediately can potentially earn up towards £50,000 annually… but is a well paying job to settle my future a better option, one which I may not enjoy quite as much as a lower paying, but truly satisfying job in drama therapy. The way in which the government is moving in terms of masters required for teaching the pressure to get one done and out of the way is really beginning to take its toll… and time is running out to make up my mind…

Either way, a dream is on the horizon and I just need to work the best way of getting there… thought vomit over, Howard out!
